Original abstract

This study examines preservice teachers' experiences using generative AI tools for curriculum-aligned question design. A qualitative phenomenological design was employed with 32 preservice teachers at a public university during 2024–2025. Following a training session on ChatGPT and Google Gemini, participants generated learning-outcome-aligned questions. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and analyzed through two-cycle coding. Findings revealed two themes—Opportunities and Challenges—each comprising five subthemes. Opportunities included time efficiency, creative stimulation, diverse question types, student-level customization, and digital platform compatibility. Challenges encompassed the need for precise prompting, infrastructure limitations, curriculum misalignment risks, content verification demands, and concerns about reduced pedagogical creativity. Effective AI integration in teacher education requires targeted digital literacy training, pedagogical scaffolding, and institutional support.
