A practical, step-by-step method for doing credible intellectual work with AI — and earning a hearing for it — without an institutional credential. Written for "Lost Innovators" and useful to any author, it walks through eight steps: set a base model and add separate specialist models from different providers; draft; have separate models adversarially attack the work; verify every source against primary materials; integrate honestly while following disconfirming evidence; keep a producible record and answer good-faith challenges honestly; disclose AI use via the AIast notation; and publish openly for a dated DOI. It documents the verification failure modes that matter most — real sources misrepresented, fabricated "example" citations, tasks blurring mid-conversation — and frames the discipline as a way to avoid fooling oneself as much as to earn a reader's trust. A SHA-256 fingerprint is a sixty-four-character code computed mathematically from a file's entire contents. If even one letter of a file changes, its fingerprint changes completely, and it is not possible — for any person, any computer, or any artificial intelligence — to construct an altered file that produces the same fingerprint as the original. The manifest is the complete list of those sealed files: each file's name, its exact size in bytes, and its fingerprint. It proves what existed on sealing day and makes any later alteration detectable.FILE TWO — THE LOCKED BOX (how-to-use-ai-vault-2026-08-04.7z).This is the sealed folder itself: the files named in the manifest, plus the manifest, stored in a single archive encrypted with AES-256 — the same class of encryption used in banking. Under the standard, honesty about a record's limits is part of the record.HOW TO REACH THE WORK'S RECORD.The vaulted logs are sealed by the author. The work's record card — the index of how this work was made — is reached through the QR code printed in this edition. Scanning that code opens the record card in the Earned Trust Reader, where the index can be read in full and where any file later produced by the author can be verified against the manifest's fingerprints on the reader's own computer.HOW TO REQUEST THE SEALED EVIDENCE.Editors, reviewers, and readers with a genuine question may petition the author for the sealed working files. The author produces requested files individually, at the author's discretion; each produced file can then be checked against the manifest published here, proving it is byte-for-byte the file that was sealed on sealing day. Content is unchanged beyond the front matter, the disclosure line, and the record page.EDITION v1.5 (August 2026) — THE ALIGNMENT EDITION.The guide is brought line-by-line into alignment with Earned Trust (AIast) standard v1.13, and was reviewed before deposit by a five-model council and a follow-up check convened through Perplexity (Claude Sonnet 5.0, Claude Opus 5, Claude Fable 5, Gemini 3.1 Pro, GPT 5.6 Sol), every finding adjudicated by the author on the record. What changed: Step 7 now teaches the full notation — the mandatory service-and-function breakdown, the compact mark and its rendering, and the mark's three conforming homes (byline, Earned Trust Record block, or heading the AI-use disclosure, the last recommended for scholarly venues with the reason stated). Step 6 now covers the four-part evidence record, export into the author's own custody with a five-year floor, and the four honest answers to a good-faith challenge — scoped evidence, a marked and reasoned redaction (permitted only for personal data or material under a duty of confidence), a one-sentence reasoned refusal, or an honest "unavailable"; silence is the one answer the standard does not recognize. The cover mark is corrected to an uncounted signpost so the count appears exactly once; service naming and reserved vocabulary now match the standard's canonical forms (ChatGPT, not "GPT"; AI critique is "separate," with "independent" reserved for an uninvolved human); the record page's integrity claim is narrowed to exactly what a published fingerprint proves; the embedded Earned Trust Record and the file's metadata are regenerated and verified; a version history is added to the guide itself. The council's critique materially shaped this edition, so its service enters the disclosure and the count rises honestly: the guide's mark is now LI-AIast4 — Claude (i/d/c/v/s) · ChatGPT (c) · Grok (c) · Perplexity (c).
