Original abstract
This study investigates the benefits and challenges of integrating AI-powered tools, such as ChatGPT, into the conventional ESL classroom and discusses ethical considerations. Data from two hundred and thirty respondents were used to understand the benefits and advantages of using AI-powered tools, the challenges that need to be overcome, and the ethical concerns to be considered while using AI tools in the ESL classroom, particularly in developing countries, like Bangladesh, where the guidelines for using Gen AI in academic work are in a transition phase. The study proposes some guidelines to shape the use of various AI-powered tools in classroom settings. This study contributes to ESL acquisition theory and provides several ways to improve English teaching by employing AI-based tools available in the market in developing countries. The use of AI can be amplified in classrooms through the formulation of effective policies, the development of infrastructure, the establishment of partnerships with technology providers, and the introduction of training and learning opportunities.
